Community (v1)

One of the themes of my work is the complexity that lies beneath beauty. Taken as a whole I think this is a very handsome piece. Each tile viewed individually also has its own story. The way the grain moves. The experiences you can see in the grain such as the start of decay, the affections of beetles eating through it, wood used in other applications like whiskey barrels, and wood that has changed because of where it grew. Even the way each piece reflects and refracts light is different. Yet when all the variations in appearance and experience are brought together its togetherness yields a singular identity.I call this design "Community." All of the pieces from this specific board were part of a introduction that I did at an event for one of the communities I'm part of. I had no intention originally to put them together but I'm glad I did.
