A few months ago, I came across several Japanese artists whose work featured sumi ink.  The versatility and richness of the ink was what drew me to it initially. Undiluted, the ink is a bold, deep black. When mixed with water, it creates delicate stains that border on a midnight blue. Adding graphite and salt to the piece created some beautiful markings that enhanced the overall composition. DETAILS Artwork is 8 x .75 x 10"  This study was created on stretched cotton-muslin fabric using sumi ink, graphite and salt. The painting is framed in white oak and sprayed with a non-toxic fixative.
