Sizes less than 22" are carved in Mountain Maple Wood, 22" and up in Linden Wood, holy wood (lt. sacrum lignum). St. George is usually depicted as a soldier in a suit of armor or chain mail, often bearing a lance tipped by a cross, riding a white horse, often slaying a dragon. In the West he is shown with St George's Cross emblazoned on his armor, or shield or banner. St. George is the Patron Saint of England and Catalonia, Spain.
