
Original Set of Three 1950s U.S. Military Airplane Recognition Desk Models by Topping Models
Original Items: One Set of Three. Here we have some very nice 1950s era Airplane Identification models, all bearing the mold marks of TOPPING MODELS, then located at 108 NO. MAIN ST AKRON 8, OH.. This company had started producing scale aircraft models for military and civilian customers, and later made contractor sales miniatures for a wider range of American industries. This is a nice set of three models, which definitely do shoe some age and damage, particularly repairs to the tails of both Navy fighters. One also looks to have had the incorrect identification decals installed. They are all unfortunately missing the original stands, which would attach to the central hole in the bottom, allowing them to be displayed on a desk. As best we can tell, this set is made up of the following aircraft: One Grumman HU-16 Albatross Sea Plane, probably a U.S. Airforce HU-16E, with decals for HQ-ARS (Headquarters Air Rescue Service) use.
