The Lagoon Nebula (M 8) is a star forming region in the core of our Milky Way. From dark skies, it is faintly visible to the naked eye!The dark globules (Bok globules) are collapsing clouds of hydrogen gas that will one day form new stars. Zoom in to see all the incredible fine details! The nebula gets its name from its likeness to a lagoon here on Earth. The reds and blues come from ionized hydrogen and oxygen, respectively. This photograph is comprised of data collected in June 2024 using my home telescope and astronomy camera.
