Be sure to check out our Pumpkin Growing Guide to learn how to successfully grow pumpkins at home. Flatso Pumpkin is a hybrid pumpkin variety with a flattened shape, similar to the popular Long Island Cheese Pumpkin. Flatso is a popular variety for roadside stands or farmers markets because of its ornamental and decorative appeal. However, it also makes a great pie pumpkin for backyard gardeners. Flatso Pumpkin has semi-bush plants which produce flat, oval-shaped pumpkins that average 6-8 lbs each. Each plant will typically yield 3-4 pumpkins, which are consistent in size and shape. The stems are thin and are often cut short so that the pumpkins can be stacked for a decorative display. Pumpkins may be direct-seeded or transplanted, although we highly recommend direct seeding. To ensure a good stand, we recommend planting Seeds every 12" along the intended row. Once plants emerge, thin plants to one every 2 feet. Pumpkins can be susceptible to plant diseases like downy mildew and powder
