Finnish designer and interior architect Olavi Hänninen's solid elm chairs are an example of his Brutalist aesthetic. Brutalism celebrates the imperfect appeal of handmade items. The chairs have a raw, natural and organic feel. At the same time, with the T-shaped backrest, they are distinctly modern and streamlined. The wood has a beautiful color variety, making each chair truly unique.  Olavi Hänninen, had an exceptional range when it came to design; he designed everything from furniture to trams, public facilities to church decorations. His designs range from rustic pieces to ones with a Space Age aesthetic. In 1957 Hänninen’s diversity earned him the gold medal at the 11th Milan Triennale.
