Congestive heart failure (CHF) is the most common diagnosis in hospitalized individuals 65 years and older. It is also a diagnosis associated with rehospitalization in those individuals living in the nursing home setting. Heart failure (HF) is a burden on the US healthcare system with an annual expenditure of $30.7 billion making reduction of hospital readmission for nursing home residents with heart failure a national priority. This educational activity will assist nurses in early recognition and reporting of signs and symptoms associated with CHF to avoid unnecessary rehospitalization.
