The women are pounding cloth with wooden mallets, a process that entangles the fibers to create a stronger fabric. Another woman swirls cloth in the river, a fish swimming in the shallow water nearby. The calm blue water of the river winds its way into the distance, Mt. Fuji rising beyond.
