Extremely rare, numbered couture hat designed by Jeanne Lanvin, ca. mid-1920's to early 1930's. Silk gold on black label (with the iconic Lanvin woodcut design by Paul Iribe). Bolduc is inscribed with the word “Bergère” - French for Shepardess. Fashioned from fine straw. Trimmed with a silk taffeta coral ribbon bow and ruffle under the front brim. Ivory grosgrain interior band. The hat's shallow crown and tilted brim evokes the early 1930's, but there's a chance it may date to earlier than that - an accompanying accessory to Jeanne Lanvin's “Lergère Bergère” dress, one of which was sold by Christie's in 2012 as part of a collection of Lanvin dresses owned by Spanish singer, Raquel Meller. A 1926 sketch of the dress is held in the Lanvin archives. Very good condition; some discoloration to the interior crown.
