Natural disasters may be predictable, or they may strike within little to no warning. Their effects can be short lived and isolated, or they may be long-lasting and widespread. Often natural disasters can overwhelm government and community resources, presenting serous risks to people, operations, assets and business interests. Such crisis events require organizations to be able to predict and mitigate against likely risks, as well as take ownership of the response measures until government and other supporting groups can mobilize and assume primacy of response.
