Mass casualty events, whether an industrial accident, security incident or natural disaster event, can quickly become ‘out of the box events’ in that they overwhelm the capacity of both the organization, as well as first responders, to respond to and manage the event. As such, leadership teams who understand the risks and needs of a mass casualty events (which may also include fatalities) will be better placed to control the risks and respond to the needs of the incident. This leadership course discusses the nature and impacts of a mass casualty event, the need for effective preparedness planning, the coordination requirements with internal and external stakeholders when managing a response, the assignment of primacy in terms of command and control, the broad range of business continuity requirements and strategies, the core management responsibilities and tasks, the need for effective communications and decision making, specialist support requirements, the need for ongoing risk assess
