The ability to quickly and effectively establish control over a crisis event during the initial ‘Golden Hour’ of a response can make a significant difference in reducing the risks and confusion which could result. Leadership teams, whether at the point of the crisis, or in support of the higher level and more strategic responses, should have clear protocols to deal with the varied human-made threats and natural disaster events they may face. While no specific to incident response protocol should be prescriptive, having mature and considered pre-identified response considerations enables management teams to focus on their most critical priorities first, building upon these responses to meet the unique needs of each event.
