The Carr Super Bee was designed to deliver the tone and dynamic response of a huge amp like a Fender Super Reverb in a lightweight package that can be played at home or in the studio without blowing out the windows. To achieve this elusive goal, Carr uses a pair of unusual 6BM8 output tubes, which generate 10 watts between them, but when pushed, they respond like a big amp that’s cranked. To keep the volume at manageable levels, The Super Bee utilizes Carr’s fourth generation attenuator, which takes the output down from 10 watts to 2 watts while maintaining the tone and feel of a higher output amp. There is also a unique 3-way Sting switch that offers three Fender Black Face-inspired tone settings: “64”, with extra mid-scoop and shimmer; “68”, for that classic late 1960s thick tone; and “72” which features increased gain and mid-range response. The Super Bee is available with either a 10-inch or a 12-inch speaker. The 10-inch version has a punchier, more focused tone. The 12-inch version is a little more open sounding.
