1919 Martin Style 3 Mahogany Soprano Ukulele - Used
Martin didn't sell their first Style 3 uke until 1916, and this example from barely three years later has lots of details that disappeared not long after, such as the Ivoroid "kite" inlay on the headstock. It's remarkably original, and has the ultralight construction often found on Martin ukes from the 'teens so it crackles and bubbles when you play it. Original dark stain and shellac-varnish finish throughout, the only change is that it has the Grover tuners Martin used on this model a few years later (it probably have wood friction pegs originally). No cracks or signs of any repairs, quite a miracle for an instrument this fragile as ukes were essentially ignored for decades. Comes with original hardshell case, which of course was the key to its survival in this condition.
