Trident Maple Tree
The Trident Maple Tree (acer buergerianum) is a deciduous attractive small shape patio, lawn, or street ornamental tree. Produces small yellowish-green flowers in flat-topped or umbrella-shaped clusters in April–May. Trident grows in a rounded shape with dark green 3 lobed leaves that are 2-4" long that change to yellow, orange and then red in the fall (Late October & Early November). Yields pairs of winged seed about ¾–1" long that persist into autumn. Easily transplants from container to container, to ground. Because it tends to grow as a multi-stemmed, (low-branching specimen unless trained to a single stem) Trident is often used in bonsai. Can tolerate many urban conditions. Verticillium wilt is a potential problem for maples. It may suffer limb breakage with snow or ice.Trident grows at a slow to medium rate, 12" to 24" per year.
