An aluminum anode helps protect metal underwater, such as the prop shaft and the engine, from electrolytic corrosion in fresh, brackish and salt water. A sacrificial anode, made from a weaker metal than your boat components, is designed to corrode instead of your boat.  In general, sacrificial anodes should be inspected at least once a year and replaced when they have coroded down to 50% of their original size and weight.  For boats that are used in heavily corrosive water, anodes may need to be replaced more frequently. Protect your investment!
