Artist: Thomas Sully (1783 – 1872) was an American portrait painter.Engraver: David C. Hinman (active 1830's-1840's), stipple engraver, New Haven, Conn.; member of the firm Daggett, Hinman & Co.Title: William Maclure.  He was an Americanized Scottish geologist, cartographer and philanthropist.
