The poster touts the Phantom’s top speed of more than 500 miles per hour and landing speed comparable to conventional carrier-based fighters. The FH Phantom was the first purely jet-powered aircraft to land on an American aircraft carrier and the first jet deployed by the United States Marine Corps. Only 62 FH Phantoms had been built by the end of WWII but the aircraft proved the viability of carrier-based jet fighters and led to the development of F2H Banshee, a primary jet fighter of the US Navy during the Korean War.
