About the Piece Authentic Ancient Greek Coin A greek Tetradrachm silver coin minted in Athens circa 98/97 B.C. and  weighing 16.32 grams. Set in silver, the pendent measures 1.5" across and just over 2" long (chain not included). One side of the coin depicts Athena Parthenos wearing an Athenian helmet looking to the right with a well preserved dotted border, though struck offcenter. On the obverse of the coin, an owl standing right on a prostrate amphora with an olive wreath surrounding. In Greek mythology, Athena is the goddess of wisdom, peace, warfare, strategy and reason. Athena was almost always attended by her owl, which revealed truths of the world to her, making it a literal manifestation of wisdom and knowledge. A fierce warrior, Athena helped heroes such as Odysseus and Hercules and never takes a parter.
