The Cerrillos Turquoise mine is a turquoise mine located in the Cerrillos Hills, 20 miles southwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is one of the oldest and most important turquoise mines in North America. The Cerrillos Hills have been mined for turquoise since at least the 12th century. The turquoise from Cerrillos was prized by the Ancestral Puebloans, who used it to make jewelry and other objects. The Spanish also mined turquoise in Cerrillos, and the mine was active until the early 20th century. The Cerrillos Turquoise mine is a open-pit mine.
