Well preserved Pre-Columbian Large Bowl from the Mixtec Culture of Western Mexico. Polychrome Bowl dates circa 1200-1500 AD and comes with Thermoluminescence or TL Test verifying age. Vessel displays continuous band of Quetzalcoatl or "Feathered Serpent Deity" in vibrant reds, yellows and black colors. Quetzalcoatl was one of the most important gods in ancient Mesoamerica. The god known as the Plumed Serpent (more below). Substantial Bowl still retains vibrant colors. Museum quality repair from approximately four large pieces, with small amounts of overpaint along the repair lines. Most pigment on the body is original. Light deposits on surface and nice preservation of motifs. This bowl is a fine example of polychrome ceramics made during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries in the Cholula area of the state of Puebla and the Mixtec region of Oaxaca. Well finished with brilliant, almost lacquerlike surfaces, the ceramic vessels feature designs in vivid orange, red, and white. G
