Cuong Nguyen - Old Master's Verdaccio Underpainting Technique in Oil Rescheduled to February 9, 10, 11, 12, 2023 Thursday through Sunday 10 am to 5 pm $750, includes model fee Our local legend Cuong Nguyen will be teaching here in Saratoga! Cuong Nguyen is inviting you to practice in this 4-Day Oil Painting Workshop. With one live model, Cuong will teach you his Old Masters Verdaccio UnderpaintingTechnique in Oil. "Verdaccio", is a greenish underpainting technique used by early Italian fresco painters. In this process we create a complete rendering from life and continue to create a foundation of structure and value using green colors. We continue with a flesh palette to create the finished affect of vivid flesh tones. Several transparent over-painting layers are applied above the Verdaccio foundation to achieve a realistic skin toned painting that glows. Much like his pastel painting technique using the same method, Cuong has perfected a step by step method of achieving a great finished painting. Demonstrations and individual attention will be emphasized, enabling each student to produce a finished painting by workshop completion. This workshop is designed to create a relaxed, informative, yet focused working environment for all skill levels. The core of the lesson will be based on drawing, values, edges, composition and creating life-like skin tone color.
