Red Onion Red/Purple onions tend to have a sharp onion flavor in addition to a mild spiciness. Roast some home grown onions, or chop up and use as an ingredient! Easy to grow and provides edible onion-flavored foliage year round!  Color: Green Foliage, Red/Purple Sow seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost or directly after threat of frost has passed. Depth of seeds should be roughly 1/8th” deep, keeping moist but not soggy, and in a warm sunny spot to encourage germination. If you sow indoors, take the healthiest plants and re-sow them in-ground in rows, in loose soil! Onions require loose soil in order to grow large!
