Planting: Plant hydrangeas in spring or fall, or in winter if the ground is diggable, and in summer with plenty of water. They need full or partial sun and well-draining, moist soil. To plant, dig a hole no deeper than the container's depth but wider by 6 inches or more. Slide the plant from the pot and trim the root ball's bottom 2 inches if in plastic. Adjust the height of the plant so that the root crown is slightly higher than the ground, then backfill the hole with soil. Firm the soil around the plant and water well to settle the soil around the root ball. 2. Watering: Keep the soil moist, not saturated, especially in summer and after planting. Water deeply once a week in hot and dry conditions. Apply 2-inch deep mulch for reduced watering and extreme temperature protection. Water frequently when newly planted. 3. Pruning:You don't need to prune panicle hydrangeas, but pruning during dormancy can help encourage bushier growth and a uniform shape and renew an older plant. This hydrangea blooms on new wood. 4. Fertilizing: In spring, apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer for new growth and blooms. After planting, mulch plants with organic matter.
