The end caps are only protectors for the ends of the bars and used to hide the internal components of the barbell and stop damage to floors. Under no circumstances are they used as a slamming device and are not designed for power slamming the bars with force onto the floor or any other surface as this will cause the end cap to cut through and render it useless. This may also occur from repetitive slamming when putting the heavier bars away for storage. If you are having consistent trouble with the cutting of end caps the solution is to insert a washer to size inside the end cap as per the images below to distribute the force over a larger surface area. SMAI do not supply the washers however you can source them from your local hardware store. 16kg/36lb bar requires a 50mm diameter washer 12kg/26lb bar requires a 39mm diameter washer 8kg/18lb bar
