Verve, 2009 Diana Krall’s “Quiet Nights” is named after the English translation of the bossa-nova standard “Corcovado”– just one of three classic Brazilian pop masterpieces by the godfather of bossa, Antonio Carlos Jobim, featured on the album. For added authenticity, orchestral arrangements are by Claus Ogerman, who frequently collaborated with Jobim. Also featured are standards from the Great American Songbook by the likes of Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hart, as well as a take on Bacharach and David’s “Walk On By,” all delivered with her trademark sultry sophistication.
