End Blown Quenacho
The Quenacho is a huge Quena in D major. The natural bamboo from our grove has a natural bow or curve. Due to the bigger bore of the bamboo the holes are wider and further apart thus recommended best fit a bigger hand with wider fingers. I am offering a concert tuned D Quenacho that you can play with others and use to record. The deep and rich Quenacho will play in D major, Em G and Bm. HOW TO PLAY: This is an end blown flute made with a hot iron that burns a notch at the top. When a fine jet of air from a relaxed grin crosses it, there is sound and then adventure. Lesson: At first just hold the flute without covering the holes. Lift it upward pressing against a soft lower lip and tilt it or pivot it while you press up against the lip to find the sweet spot where the air will spit to make sound. This is a D major scale. The traditional bottom note for the Quenacho is D, when all the fingers are down. So all closed is D, E, F#, G, A, B, C# all top holes open, then the back hole which is the high D. Which will also play in E minor ( by starting on the second note) and will play in G (by using the peace sign fingers together) and Bm ( by starting on the B note and moving into the second octave by blowing harder. The last 2 notes on the second octave are at times much easier to get when you close the first 2 bottom holes. The Concert tuned D is sought by musicians to play with others and to record with instrumentation tuned in A440. Most of my Quenachos have a natural curve. This does not affect the sound. Some folks like a curve and others do not. If you do not like a natural curve in your flute this is not the flute for you! Bamboo can curve to seek out light as it is growing. May we be so flexible in our lives too. Every Quenacho comes with 2 protective bindings, a flute bag, a flute lesson and free shipping inside the USA! Note: For an average size hand, I recommend the professionally tuned G major Quena. Will play in Am, C and Em also.
