About Terra Flamma: (all books are hand signed by photographer Stuart Palley) Wildfires at Night is a five-year project documenting wildfires at night as the most acute effect of drought and climate change in California. By photographing at night Palley utilizes the ever-changing natural light source of flame to light scenes, putting each fire in it’s geographic context. The locations of blazes range from urban Los Angeles on the edge of the Angeles National Forest to remote campaign fires in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, to the Mexican border in San Diego, to the towering pines of the Shasta Trinity National Forest in far Northern California. The project originated as a response to typical coverage of fires, which treated the fires as a breaking news event, each time, rather than the trend of larger and more destructive wildfires each year.
