
2009 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Grand Cru Avize Champ Cain
Jacquesson is one of the oldest Champagne houses in Dizy, and for what it's worth, received a gold medal from Napoleon Bonaparte for the quality of their cellar some 200+ years ago. The Jacquesson name experienced a slight decline after the death of Adolphe Jacquesson, and it was not until Jean Chiquet bought it in 1974 that the name began to come back to its former glory. The Chiquet family revitalized the House utilizing more Grand Cru grapes, oak barrels for complexity, and overall more scrutiny over the quality of the Champagne produced. While their Serial Number Cuvee is always a great buy, the single-site wines from Jacqesson really uncover what this address is all about. Champ Cain is a 1.3-hectare 100% Chardonnay lieux dits in Avize that was planted in 1962, located on the bottom of a south-facing hill with sandy clay and limestone soil with silt, chalk, and gravel.
