Found in a flea market in Chartres, France.   Hand made of stoneware Made of stoneware with an iridescent black finish Jean Marais is known for.  Inscribed with artist signature. 13" tall, 4.5" wide Editor's notes Jean Marais worked in painting, ceramics & sculpture in the artist community of Vallauris and was influenced by Jean Cocteau.   We found this pretty signed example in the most unlikely stall in a flea market in Chartres.  We love the voluptuous shades and the lustrous finish.  It's a beautifully unique work of art.   Who is Jean Marais? Jean Marais (1913-1998) was a French actor, director, and sculptor. He was born on December 11, 1913, in Cherbourg, France. Marais is best known for his work in French cinema, particularly his collaborations with director Jean Cocteau. Marais gained recognition for his role as the Beast in Cocteau's iconic film "Beauty and the Beast" (1946), which remains one of his most memorable performances
