Artist: Yamaguchi Gen (1896-1976)Title: Zojoji Temple in Shiba 芝増上寺 Date: ca 1945 This view of the brilliant red main gate, Sangedatsumon, of Zojoji Temple is framed by two large conifers. Constructed in 1622, it is the oldest wooden building in Tokyo and the temple’s only original structure to survive WWII. This work is part of a portfolio of 15 prints that were published by the Japanese Print Association as a reminder of what was lost during the war, done by a number of prominent sosaku hanga artists.
