Artist: Kawase Hasui 巴水 (1883-1957) Title: Lake Hachirogata, Akita 秋田八郎泻 Series: Souvenirs of Travel, Third Series (Tabi miyage dai sanshû) Date: 1927 An unseen moon creates shadows upon shadows as three stars peek out between a tree with mottled bark and a moonlight-dappled wooden building. Hasui has effectively captured the colors and atmosphere of early evening, with very subtle tonalities and shading. There are no people to be seen, so we have the place to ourselves. First edition, with the earliest Watanabe seal that was used during this period (1924-1930) at lower right. Condition: Excellent impression; very good color and condition. Slight repair in lower left corner and a couple of minor spots.
