Hasui 巴水: Evening Rain at Kawarago 河原子の夜雨 (Sold)
Artist: Kawase Hasui 川瀬巴水 Title: Evening Rain at Kawarago Date: 1947 An unusual viewpoint of what seems to be an alley during a pouring rainstorm. We see the usual Hasui touches of a lone figure retreating in the distance, and the glow from several windows. The rain is beautifully printed in this glimpse of rather realistic looking street with various wooden household items awaiting a useful future. Perhaps this slight amount of disarray is Hasui’s way of hinting at postwar rebuilding? His preferred subjects are usually the pristine views of nature and groomed lanscapes. Kawarago is located in Ibaraki Prefecture. First edition, with the round Watanabe seal of this postwar period in the lower left corner. Condition: Very good/excellent impression, color and condition.
