Robinia pseudoacacia A loved and loathed nitrogen-fixing early succession tree. Excellent for shifting old-field to forest. Aromatic flowers in late spring provide an excellent pollen source. Black locusts have been planted historically to draw lightning away from structures. Vigorous and fast growing. Often sends up shoots into surrounding areas.
