During my lunch break, I had just enough time to walk to Central Park and give the carriage horses a pat before heading back to whatever lonely receptionist desk I was watching for the day. I loved to talk to the carriage drivers and they were always willing to hand me a carrot to feed their hard-working companions. On the short winter days, the sun would have long set by the time I left the office and on my walk to the subway, I'd see those some of those same carriage horses eating the last of their dinner in the soft glow of the street lamps.
