Second collection of verse, following For My People (1942), by American poet Margaret Walker (1915-1998), a vital participant in the Chicago Black Renaissance and later the Black Arts Movement; poems about the Civil Rights movement, many of which draw symbolic links between participants like Martin Luther King Jr. and Medgar Evers and biblical prophets.
