NY: Lee's Mardi Gras, 1974. 47pp; b&w illus. 4to. Saddle-stapled in illustrated wraps. Better than very good, with repricing stickers to front cover. Single issue of this seminal transvestite magazine, noted for its visual brio, substantive, original content, and inclusion of diverse queer and transfeminine perspectives; published and edited by New York activist, impresario, and drag queen Lee Brewster (1943-2000), founder also of the Queens Liberation Front; with cover and art direction by Vicky West (d. 2005). Contents here include the usual roundup of news headlines; a brief in memoriam notice for fetish artist Gene Bilbrew (which erroneously states his birth year as 1929); an interview with "transvestite counselors" Garrett Oppenheim and Fae Robbin; a long photo-feature about Lee Brewster's Mardi Gras Tour; etc. Profusely photo-illustrated throuhout in black-and-white.
