
#6418 Translucent porcelain cup
This cup measures 3 inches in diameter: note I'm describing this body of cups by listing the diameter...I think that it will give you a better idea of size and volume. It holds a modest volume for those beverages that you consume in moderation: water, juices, tea, coffee perhaps, wine, sake, liquors. This is the first body of work to come from an assignment that I gave myself: "assignments" are often how I learn...how I continue to try new things and advance my visual literacy. In this case I was hoping to capture translucence, while giving the appearance of using a black clay for the base; I also used some encapsulated colorants to make red and orange slips; and finally I used several of the celadon glazes from my stable of glazes. This approach is the way I continue to try to expand my visual literacy…to expand my understanding of beauty, and to keep trying to learn how to make the pots that I don’t know how to make.
