THIS PLANT SHIPS BAREROOT, OFTEN WITH BUDS ALREADY BEGINNING TO LEAF OUT. 'Chocolate Shogun' boasts glossy, chocolate/bronze leaves which serve as a striking background for its pink blushed flowers in mid- to late-summer. This perennial forms clumps of toothed leaves and blooms as other plants wane in the summer months. Will be happiest with dappled shade. Plant in well-draining soil rich in organic matter No serious insect or disease problems, though foliage may turn brown in hot weather or if the plant does not receive enough water. Also keep an eye out for powdery mildew and wilt. Great for moist, partially shaded areas. Astilbe must have consistently moist soil to thrive. Cut back the old foliage in spring. Divide in early spring every 3 - 4 years.
