Vale: “Before Punk Rock happened, Genesis P-Orridge was heavily ensconced in the small but international “Mail Art” underground movement, in which strangers sent each other hand-decorated, modified and personalized “mailable” artworks and received similar artworks in exchange, outside of the museum and gallery system (i.e., outside of capitalism). I had a small correspondence with him before I printed an interview with his pioneering band, “Throbbing Gristle” in my 1978 Search & Destroy number six.
