When Pan saw her he was smitten. At first sight Syrinx ran away from Pan, bounding toward the reedy shore of a river, where the river nymphs helped her, and as she jumped into the water, she was transformed into reeds. Pan gathered the reeds he thought to have been Syrinx, and from them made his signature pan pipes, thus Syrinx was turned into music.
