American Foxglove (not a true foxglove) is one of the loveliest sights on the spring prairie. It spends most of the year as a small, insignificant rosette, then shoots up 1 to 1 and 1/2 foot stems a couple of weeks before blooming in the spring. American Foxglove's blooms are white to purple, and each is about 2 to 3 inches long. They will grow in part shade to full sun. References say that they bloom for only a couple of weeks, but if they can have some afternoon shade, we’ve found that the blooms will last longer. Grows an average height of 12 to 18 inches.
