Inspired by the “Wound Man” illustration from Hans Von Gersdorff in 1519, this piece depicts our own sadomasochistic tendencies in the subject of love and mental health. Overcoming the obstacles and perseverance through wild wars against the self and others is always within us. To some, Valentine's Day can hold a great deal of weight in expectations and guilt. This "holiday", though a nice gesture on the surface, bubbles up quite a lot of anxiety for not only people without a significant other but for those that are in relationships as well. This piece is a reminder that we all struggle with the eternal mystery and push and pull of love from both within and without.
