This watercolor illustration of the ruffed grouse depicts black hawthorn, as well as the complete metamorphosis of the white admiral butterfly. In spring, ruffed grouse are commonly heard before seen. They create a thumping sound by moving their wings back and forth, building to a crescendo that can be heard up to a quarter mile away—folks commonly mistake the sound for a tractor. Grouse are year-round residents of Michigan. This limited edition print is available in 3 sizes: 8"x10", 12"x15", 16"x20".
