A native of China, recently brought into the trade, P. subaequalis has narrow green leaves occasionally margined in purple, becoming rich and deep burgundy, purple, and pink before dropping. Its toothed leaves are more slender and less fanning than those of Parrotia persica, and the bark, with age, becomes a pronounced puzzle-work of tans and greens, more so than P. persica. Mature size: 25 feet tall x 15 feet W and roughly vase-shaped. Minimum temperature: -10° F
