Compound glossy leaves clad stems that terminate in especially opulent and abundant clusters of yellow flowers in spring. Birds will take advantage of the dark purple berries that follow. This is apparently a serendipitous hybrid of three Mahonia from Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, yielding a more vigorous, floriferous plant.
