From Yunnan Province, China, Magnolia laevifolia has thick olive-green spatulate leaves that hold exquisite and conspicuous rusty-golden buds. Its 3 - 4 inch white, chalice-shaped flowers have butter-yellow stamens and are prettily scented with a slight and sweet spicy-cucumber fragrance. Blooming in early spring it can continue until fall.
