'Mound San Bruno' is smaller in overall size and leaves than the species, so it's possibly more small-garden friendly. Just like the species, however, it is an excellent addition to a mixed hedge or chaparral planting. The small flowers in early to mid-spring are total bee magnets--seriously there will be masses of bees on these things! Also a food source for the pale swallowtail butterfly larvae. After blooming, fruits first develop yellow in color, then turn fiery red, and then a shiny black. It's a-ok with pruning and also tolerates some summer irrigation (unlike many west-coast natives). Mature size: 4-8 ft T x W Minimum temperature: 0° F
