Deep merlot stems and leaves are such an asset to the garden, and such a conversation piece! It's a fabulous contrast plant and focal point, and its summer-blooming stems make long-lasting cut flowers. It's still exciting when the spikes are covered in marble-like burgundy seed pods. As soon as it pushes up, this is one of the most popular plants in the garden every year. The more sun, the more merlot.
